CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system.  This system is called the CranioSacral system, and was pioneered and developed by John E. Upledger, DO, OMM.

The CranioSacral system is comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. CST improves the balance of your central nervous system by releasing restrictions in these fluid membranes.  Imbalances in the CranioSacral system can cause sensory, motor and neurological problems. CST helps to alleviate the aches, pains and strains of life; improving coping mechanisms to allow for better management of stress. By complementing the body’s natural healing processes, CST can be instrumental in strengthening the patient’s body in its ability to heal itself, which in turn can be used as a preventive health measure.

Myofascial Release

The John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach®  is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle, sustained pressure into myofascial connective tissue restrictions, to eliminate pain and restore motion.

Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.)

The use of Myofascial Release allows practitioners to look at each patient as a unique individual.  Therapy sessions are one-on-one, hands-on treatments during which therapists use a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapy. Each Myofascial Release Treatment session is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or machinery.  This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions, and then apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia.

Practitioners empower their clients to be an active part of their healing through education in proper body mechanics and movement, self treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, improved flexibility, and postural and movement awareness.

Craniosacral Fascial Therapy

The Gillespie Approach originated from the cranial osteopathic principles of Dr. William Sutherland, the authentic myofascial release work of John Barnes, P.T., and Dr. Gillespie’s background as a periodontist. The Craniosacral Fascial System (CFT), as developed by Dr. Gillespie, consists of a slight motion of the brain and spinal cord pumping cerebrospinal fluid into the fascial web that connects every structural cell of the body. When physical and/or emotional traumas adversely tighten this freely moving system, tremendous pressure can be exerted on associated nerves, muscles, organs, blood vessels, lymph vessels, and bones. The power of CFT revolves around hands-on procedures that facilitate healing without drugs, vitamins, supplements, technology, or surgery.  A freely moving brain, spinal cord, and fascial web are must haves for the wellbeing of all newborns, children, and adults.

Emily P.

“Mary, this is the first morning EVER that I don’t need medication of any kind for my pain! You have no idea how  hopeful and happy I am! THANK YOU SO MUCH!”

Whitney W.

“All of my life I have suffered from migraine headaches which increased in both frequency and pain after the birth of my youngest daughter.  I tried medicine, cortisone injections, acupuncture, botox and countless other therapies witch provided limited relief, before being referred to Mary Goldstein, PT.  After just 2 sessions with Mary, my headaches were gone! My quality of life has totally changed as pain is no longer my constant companion! I am back to enjoying my family and my life without pain!  Thank you Mary!”

Jill N.

“My 17 year-old son, Nathan, complained of feeling pain and discomfort performing some Taekwondo movements. His teacher referred us to Mary Goldstein, PT. Over the next few months of working with Mary, Nathan has made great strides, BEYOND working through physical discomfort in Taekwondo. I home school Nathan and have, along with his tutor, OT, Speech Therapist, and family members noticed growth and advancement in his ability to take direction, focus, and learn. He is less anxious and more interested in new things. He seems generally happier and easier going!”
